Built by parents over 30 years ago and enjoyed by generations of school children and parish families, the SCS playground is a beloved part of our campus and community. In fact, the grandchildren of the original builders are the ones who now play on the playground daily. The playground's construction - while state of the art when built - is all wood and, therefore susceptible to the elements and natural decline.
Despite the best efforts of our Co-Op and Men's Club, the upkeep has become overwhelming. Much of the structure is rotting and causing safety issues. The safety of our children is paramount and has necessitated the replacement of the current play structure with a new structure using modern technology. The new playground will be designed by the same company that created the iconic SCS playground 30 years ago and will join our PK3 playground and new Gator Field as hallmarks of our parish campus.
The new equipment will be similar in design and look to the current one, however, it will have several new features:
The existing playground will be removed starting May 18. After the demolition is completed, there will be some site preparation / drainage work completed. After everything is prepared for the construction, the new playground will be constructed by parishioners just like it was 30 years ago. The community build will take 5 days in either June or July. As soon as the date is determined, we will announce it so that everyone can help build our next playground.
We plan to look for the old buried timecapsule and make a new one!
The new playground is being paid for completely through the following sources: the Men’s Club donation, the Coop donation, the school building fee assessed as part of tuition, Parish Fair proceeds, Gala proceeds, summer camp proceeds, and iGiveCatholic donations from last year. No additional fundraising is needed to pay for the playground. By supporting all of the events on campus, you have helped make this new playground a reality! Thank you for you for generosity!
If you have any questions, about the project, please contact Fr. Tim in the parish office.
