On Saturday May 16 in St. Louis Cathedral, one of our very own parishioners Michael Lamy will be ordained a transitional deacon. This is one of his final steps towards being ordained a priest of Jesus Christ God-willing in June 2021.
It is an immense gift for a parish to have a seminarian reach ordination. No man goes to the Cathedral to be ordained alone. He takes with him his family, friends, and, in a special way, his parish. We have supported Michael with our prayers especially with the monthly vocation cross given out each month.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in New Orleans, Michael will not have a large congregation to witness his ordination. In fact, the only attendees will be the men being called to ordination, a few other priest, and Archbishop Aymond. It is a great sacrifice these men undergoing to not be able to celebrate this moment with others. The ordination to the diaconate is when a man makes a full gift of himself to the Lord and his Church. After this ordination, he has pledged his life to the Lord in chastity and obedience to be of service for the salvation of souls.
As a parish, we continue to lift Michael in prayer this next week and as he begins ordained ministry.
Congratulations, Michael! We are grateful to God for your vocation! You will do great things for the Lord and his Church!
